The heat just turned up on embattled outgoing police commissioner Owen Ellington, as it has been revealed imprisoned Vybz Kartel has allegedly filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against him. News of the unprecedented lawsuit is sure to rock Ellington and the police high command, piling more pressure on the under-fire commissioner and the entire JCF organization.
Speaking on Jamaican TV show All Angles in April, in the aftermath of Vybz Kartel’s sentence to 35 years to life for murder, Commissioner Owen Ellington made the scathing, and Kartel is contesting unfounded and libelous, remark that Kartel was the leader of a gang who are responsible for over 100 murders.
Many at the time were asking if that was the case was he doing this under the nose of the JCF? If they knew this to be true why did they allow it to happen? Why hasn’t Kartel been charged with these other murders?
Well it seems now that enough is enough for Vybz Kartel, who has apparently filed a lawsuit for millions and millions of dollars against Owen Ellington for the alleged remarks, that have so far gone unproven in a court of law.
The news couldn’t come at a worse time for Ellington who “retired” as Commissioner of the JCF last week under very controversial circumstances. The reasons for his retirement have been widely dismissed as an attempt to mask the truth, with more revelations and insight expected to unfold as to the real reasons for his retirement in the coming days.
As this civil suit unfolds, another trial involving Vybz Kartel will once again grip the world’s attention, as Ellington will surely be forced to have to back-up his alleged remarks with evidence. If he loses he stands to pay millions of dollars in damages to Vybz Kartel, as well as potentially having to issue an apology, which will certainly be a sight to behold.
Vybz Kartel and his co-defendants are currently appealing their murder convictions.
More details to follow.
